“Volunteering is a sign of hope for all of us!”. With this conviction, the Office of Vocations and Volunteer Ministry of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools launches the International Volunteer Ministry Directory. “Here, in this Directory, you can find different Lasallian projects that are ready to welcome you and work with you”, says the Director of the Office, Mourad Barsoum.
“The Directory could help to raise awareness of host communities and promote international volunteer ministry”, continues Mourad, since “many times, as a Lasallian Family, we are not aware of the various ministries and communities we have”. However, observing that more than a few Lasallians are constantly looking for places to volunteer, “we hope that this document will encourage Lasallians of all regions and ages to live the experience of volunteering”.
While there are currently a number of options and opportunities for those wishing to volunteer, “volunteering with La Salle has many significant aspects”, says Mourad. “One of them is the possibility of living in a community of volunteers and Brothers, which allows the person to feel at home and ensures that he or she is not alone”. Also, “by visiting the peripheries, the volunteer will get to know the realities of our large Lasallian Family, where we carry out our educational mission, and the volunteers will be able to interact with others, which will open their heart to new experiences and realities”.
In this way, on the basis of faith, fraternity and service, which identifies the Lasallian Family, the International Volunteer Ministry Directory opens the door to captivating experiences of meaning around what it means, for us Lasallians, to “go out and meet” others, understanding that “our heart is in the peripheries”.
The document that you can download below includes 24 options for International Lasallian Volunteer Ministry in various countries and regions of the world.
If you would like to be involved in any of these experiences, please send your application to mbarsoum@lasalle.org, mbarsoum@lasalle.org indicating the community in which you would like to volunteer. Through this same means, you will also receive a form to fill in to complete the application. Subsequently, the Office of Vocations and Volunteer Ministry will contact the candidate to continue the process.
