The Brothers of the Christian Schools in Rwanda have started a new Mission in the capital Kigali. The La Salle Community and a school (Kigali De La Salle School). The school has two sections, the kindergarten section with 74 pupils and the primary section with 89 pupils. The staff consists of 20 people: 3 Brothers and 17 Lay Associates.
On January 9, 2024, the Brothers, pupils, parents and Lay Associates of the Kigali De La Salle School had the pleasure of receiving His Eminence Cardinal Antoine Kambanda, Archbishop of Kigali, who blessed the Brothers’ chapel, all the facilities and the school, and also celebrated the Eucharist in the school’s assembly hall.
In his address, Brother Jean Bosco Bigirimana, President of the Delegation of Rwanda, thanked the local authorities, and those of the Church in particular, for accepting that the community and the work of the Brothers of the Christian Schools be established in the Archdiocese of Kigali, promising them an honest cooperation. He also appreciated the warm welcome of the neighbourhood and parents and their confidence in sending their children to the Brothers’ school. Above all, he acknowledged the teachers, as did His Eminence Antoine Kambanda, for putting their heart and soul into making the Lasallian educational mission possible.
His Eminence reminded the Christian faithful that the religious community is hospitable community, inhabited by God, and a community where fraternity is at the heart of all activities. He promised the Brothers his close collaboration for the smooth running of this educational mission, strongly desired and encouraged by the Church.
He also recalled that every child is a gift from God to the family and society, a gift that must be nurtured by parents and teachers, and urged them to dedicate their service to helping the talents that God has hidden in every child to blossom and grow.
