Brother Donald Johanson, who for more than two years has served as the Institute’s Director of Financial Stewardship, will take on a new position in the San Francisco New Orleans (SFNO) District, directly linked to the Director’s Office of Sustainability, effective January 1, 2025.
“We recognise the need to direct more resources to our fragile schools in the form of professional development for the local financial director, accurate data management for decision making and prospect,” says Brother Nick Gonzalez, Visitor of SFNO District, explaining that “Brother Donald’s role will be to bring his considerable financial and District experience to help leaders achieve these goals”.
The new mission entrusted to him includes the evaluation of financial budgets and actual results, as well as strategic planning and mentoring, all in an effort to ensure the short, medium and long-term sustainability of the District’s schools.
Brother Donald will move to the Mont La Salle Provincial Community in Napa, California, to assist with the implementation of the SFNO District Action Plan, which has sustainability – along with membership and formation – as a priority focus.
Given his deep expertise in the financial field and his extensive knowledge of the Institute, Brother Donald will continue to be involved in a number of international projects and will continue to serve in the Institute’s International Economic Council.
We thank Brother Donald for his generous commitment to the Institute and his significant contribution to the implementation of the Pathways of Transformation stemming from the 46th General Chapter. In a special way, his work as Director of Financial Stewardship contributed to finding creative solutions to leverage human and financial resources and ensure the sustainability of the Lasallian mission as well as the stewardship of the Institute’s patrimony.
His legacy adds to his very important contributions to the Computer Services between 2000 and 2006, when he also resided at the Generalate, as well as other special services for the General Chapter between 1998 and 2000.
We wish him every success in the new mission he is undertaking in his home District, where he has also served as Brother Visitor for 11 years, first in the former District of San Francisco, and then in the nascent SFNO District.
