All Teachers in Archdiocese of Nairobi declared under the Patronage of Saint John Baptist de La Salle
Kenyan Archbishop Philip Subira Anyolo is a long time friend of the De La Salle Brothers. When he was the Bishop of the Diocese of Homa Bay, he welcomed the Brothers into his diocese and was so instrumental in ensuring that Brothers get the new apostolate in the Western part of Kenya as part of their educational mission. In fact, La Salle School in Homa Bay is the youngest and newest ministry of the Brothers of the Christian Schools in Kenya
Recently, in his new Archdiocese of Nairobi, Archbishop Anyolo on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, recognised St John Baptist de La Salle as the Patron Saint of all Catholic Schools and all Teachers in the Archdiocese of Nairobi.
He has done so through a statement read during the day in which a portrait of the life and work of our Founder was also shared before more than 3,000 teachers who participated in the commemorative events of the Teacher’s Day.
“This is a humbling experience for the De La Salle Brothers in Kenya and for the wonderful work that our Founder has done in the educational field,” remark the Brothers in Kenya, thanking Archbishop Anyolo for his humbling acknowledgement to St John Baptist de La Salle, whom Pope Pius XII declared the Universal Patron of Teachers on 15 May 1950.
This is an extract from Mgr Anyolo Subira Anyolo’s statement:
- Archdiocese of Nairobi Teacher’s Day will be observed annually.
- All Teachers in the Archdiocese of Nairobi will be under the Patronage of Saint John Baptist de La Salle.
- During the Archdiocesan Educator’s Day celebrations, the Mass proper to the saint will be celebrated.
- To maintain our institutions as centres of evangelisation, I guide that schools that have not identified their Patron Saint to do so on or before the end of this year.
- I urge the Education Office and the Archdiocese of Nairobi Advisory Board to ensure the above guidelines are observed.
