Introduction
2024-2025 marks an important moment in the history of the Brothers of the Christian Schools.
That small community, three hundred years ago, received civil recognition by the King of France and recognition by the Holy See as a juridical ecclesial person.
We do not know why our Father, John Baptist de La Salle, did not want to work on these formalities.
Biographers say that his answer was ‘It is not the time’; was he not entirely convinced that what they had achieved was the definitive structure?
What is certain is that, from the very beginning, he had wished and worked to place all the legislative, instituting power in the hands of the Brothers. We could say that this step is a sign of the maturity that the Society of the Christian Schools had reached.
